SUMMARY:Maka: Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Maka is a documentary about Geneviève Makaping — an anthropologist\, journalist\, and the first Black woman to serve as editor-in-chief of an Italian newspaper. Tracing her migration from Cameroon across the desert and the Mediterranean Sea to her arrival and life in Italy\, the film capture both her personal resilience and her reflections on race\, migration\, and representation. Through an engaging blend of interviews\, archival images\, and reflective storytelling\, the documentary crafts a powerful meditation on visibility\, identity and belonging.

SUMMARY:Immersive Futures: AI\, VR\, and the Classroom of Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an interactive session with Wonda VR founder and CEO Arnaud Dressen\, exploring how immersive technologies are reshaping education\, storytelling\, and cultural engagement. From virtual cities and historical environments to AI-assisted learning experiences\, immersive tools are transforming the way we explore languages\, cultures\, and knowledge. In this session\, we will discuss how universities and creators are using virtual reality\, augmented reality\, and AI to design new kinds of learning experiences. \nThe event will include a look behind the scenes at how immersive environments are created\, insights into the future of AI\, AR\, and VR in education\, and a conversation on digital storytelling and cultural exploration. The session will conclude with an open discussion and audience Q&A. The talk will also highlight UCLA’s ARC Hub (Augmented Reality & Culture Hub)\, an initiative exploring how immersive technologies can transform language learning and cultural discovery.

SUMMARY:"The Art of Collective Creation: Hermeneutic Democracy from Vattimo to Rancière"
DESCRIPTION:There exists a near universal consensus on the word democracy\, which is often seen as an absolute good and virtually untouchable taboo. But to avoid its possible idealizations\, distortions\, and even imposition on others\, Italian philosopher Gianni Vattimo proposes not strengthening but weakening democracy. Just as his pensiero debole consists in a liberation from the strong (that is\, violent) structures of Western Metaphysics\, so weak democracy provides an ability to liberate and develop the polyphonic coexistence of divergent voices\, worlds\, interpretations\, and forms of life. This coexistence takes on pluralistic\, participative\, and creative features. How\, then\, does such liberation take place? And\, more specifically\, what would a weak democracy consist of? \nSilvia Mazzini is director of the IDSVA (Institute for Doctoral Studies in the Visual Arts\, Portland)\, where she teaches Philosophy and Art Theory. Her publications have focused on art and politics in Pier Paolo Pasolini\, Ernst Bloch\, and Gianni Vattimo\, as well as on comic thought and community theatre. She is currently completing a book-length study of Philosophy of Poverty. Before joining IDSVA\, she worked at Humboldt University Berlin (where she also earned her PhD)\, the Berlin University of the Arts\, and the University of Groningen (NL)\, and was a visiting fellow at ICI Berlin. As a theatre author\, she collaborated with various theatre companies and has experimented with narrative essays\, performative lectures\, and hybrid artistic forms.
