Joia Duskic (elle/she/her) is an emerging scholar born in Tiohtià:ke | Mooniyang | Montreal. She holds a Master of Arts in Art History from Concordia and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History from the same university. Her master’s research, « L’oeuvre Maman de Louise Bourgeois: vecteur de compréhension de la relation entre l’institution muséale et l’espace public » focused on the correlation between public art exhibited in urban environments and curatorial systems of institutional museums. Having lived in a French Canadian city her whole life, she is eager to begin her doctoral research to question the role of public art in constructing francophone identities in the public spaces of the Americas. She was the Undergraduate Valedictorian at Concordia University in 2021-2022 and is the recipient of the Francine V. Jones Art Conservation Study Award, the R. Bella Rabinovitch Art History Prize, and, the Elspeth McConnell Fine Arts Award. Her master’s research was funded by the Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines du Canada while her doctoral studies will be funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et Culture.
