I signed up for my first French class because of my admiration for Francophone culture, and looking back, it was one of the best decisions I made at UCLA. The French department is filled with teaching assistants who are committed to teaching language. They present the language in a multitude of different ways so that anyone can find a way to connect to the subject material–from showing a movie, to talking about French politics, to listening to a pop French song. Additionally, all of the instructors love Francophone culture, and it shows through their commitment towards making sure every student succeeds. Furthermore, all of them are very easy to connect to, and I actually still keep in touch with some of them today!
Whether you want to just get your feet wet, minor, or major in French and Francophone studies, UCLA’s French department is well-prepared to help you get to where you want to be. They create a great collaborative and learning environment that makes it easy to learn French.
