Professor Lia Brozgal’s book awarded the 2024 Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for a Translation of a Literary Work

This year’s recipient of the MLA’s Aldo and Jeanne Scaglione Prize for a Translation of a Literary Work was awarded to A Jewish Childhood in the Muslim Mediterranean, a collection of stories curated by Leïla Sebbar. The book was edited by Lia Brozgal and Rebecca Glasberg, and features translations by Lia Brozgal, Jane Kuntz, Rebekah Lois Vince, and Robert Jay Watson. The book brings together the fascinating personal stories of Jewish writers, scholars, and intellectuals who came of age in lands where Islam was the dominant religion and everyday life was infused with the politics of the French imperial project. The book was published in an open access, digital format as part of the UC Press series on Jewish Histories and Jewish Cultures. You can read the whole book on the UC Press Luminos Platform, accessible here.
