Summer Travel Study Program in Berlin, Germany
Explore Berlin, a city that has significantly impacted modern Europe and the world, through its culture, politics, architecture, art, and urban history. This program, open to students of all backgrounds and majors with no prior knowledge required, includes German language courses with a placement exam for appropriate level determination.
Regular field trips to key locations, meetings with artists and activists, and opportunities to practice German outside the classroom will enhance your understanding of Berlin’s culture and history. You’ll learn to “read” a city and explore Berlin’s diverse and historical cultural dynamics, from Imperial Germany and the Weimar Republic to the Nazi regime, World War II, the Cold War, and the post-2000s era.
Through carefully selected course materials, field trips, and encounters, the program offers an in-depth view of a city shaped by radical changes and innovative cultural developments.
Professors Magdalena Tarnawska and Yasemin Yildiz will lead the program from August 8 to September 7, 2024. For more information, contact the UCLA International Education Office.
