Brittany Asaro

Brittany Asaro received her Ph.D. in Spring 2013. Her dissertation, The Unseen Beloved: Love by Hearsay in Medieval and Early Modern Italian Literature, focuses on the topos of falling in love with someone sight unseen from the Sicilian School to sixteenth-century treaties.

Brittany is a Professor of Practice and Acting Director of the Italian Program at the University of San Diego. She teaches a variety of subjects, including all levels of language and courses on Renaissance Humanism, Children’s Literature, Food and Diversity in Contemporary Italian Culture, and more. She also designs curriculum, organizes interdisciplinary events and leads short-term programs in Sorrento and Florence.

Besides teaching, Brittany has also worked as an interpreter at Comic-Con International in San Diego, California and the Special Olympics World Games. She is an affiliate of the Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at UCLA.
