Emma Van Ness

Since filing her dissertation and receiving her Ph.D. in December 2013, Dr. Emma Van Ness has been both teaching at Ambrit International School in Rome and working on transforming her dissertation—entitled Antonio Pietrangeli, The Director of Women. Feminism and Film Theory in Postwar Italy (dir. Thomas Harrison)—into a book. She is also translating several volumes of Pietrangeli’s film criticism into English and working on a screenplay.

Dr. Van Ness is currently a lecturer at Plymouth State University in Plymouth, New Hampshire. She is also publishing a chapter entitled “Dixit Mater: The Significance of the Maternal Voice in Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels” in the book Reconfiguring the Margins: The Works of Elena Ferrante, History, Poetics, and Theory.
