Sam Glover is a first-year Ph.D. student in the French and Francophone Studies section. His research examines the emergence of Universalism, its development within the European intellectual tradition, its role in shaping the colonial project, and contemporary re-imaginings within decolonial and postcolonial contexts. Drawing on Phenomenology, Critical Theory, and African Philosophy, his work interrogates Eurocentric foundations of knowledge and explores alternative modes of being and world-experience beyond those frameworks. He approaches literature as a site of cultural convergence, aiming to reimagine this convergence as an equal and dialogic
exchange, and to explore the ethical stakes of such encounters. He is also an avid learner of Wolof and a musician.
