UC Education Abroad Program (UCEAP)

The University of California Education Abroad Program (UCEAP) is the official, system wide study abroad program for the University of California. UCEAP partners with universities worldwide and offers programs in  40+ countries. These UC-approved programs combine immersive learning with engaging activities. UCEAP students enroll in courses abroad while earning UC units and maintaining UCLA student status. Many programs offer internship, research, and volunteer opportunities.

Choose from summer, quarter, semester, and yearlong options. Financial aid and scholarships are available for qualified students. These are the additional study abroad opportunities available:

FranceParis, Lyon, and Bordeaux are the universities in France where students can spend a semester or academic year of study while registered at UCLA and earning credits toward their degrees. For additional information, see the UC Education Abroad Program website.

Free University Berlin: Regular university courses taught in German and English in a wide range of fields at Berlin’s largest university. Class levels: junior, senior, and graduate. Language of instruction: German and English. Terms: Fall, Spring, Year. Language prerequisites: German: minimum 1 year (3 quarters / 2 semesters) with a minimum language GPA of 2.85.

Humboldt University Berlin: Regular university courses, taught in German and English, in a wide range of fields at Berlin’s oldest university located in downtown Berlin. Class levels: Jr, Sr, Gr. Language of instruction: German and English. Terms: Fall, Spring, Year. Language prerequisites: German: minimum 1 year (3 quarters / 2 semesters) with a minimum language GPA of 2.85.

Italy: UCLA boasts direct connections with Italy and opportunities for smoothly integrating study there into an American degree program. Students are encouraged to spend up to one year in Italy on an American education abroad program or in an Italian university. The Education Abroad Program of UCLA places students regularly in one of a number of the finest Italian universities. Students have the opportunities to explore the resources provided by Italy’s two oldest universities, Padua and Bologna; to pursue study in the fine arts and architecture through Florence and Venice; and to study business and economics through Milano’s Bocconi. After being accepted, students consult with the Undergraduate Advisor on what courses to take abroad, and then obtain UCLA transfer credit upon return.

Berlin Summer (Free University of Berlin): Design your own program: take intensive German language classes, choose courses in English in a variety of subject areas relating to Germany and Europe, or take a combination of both. Includes field trips to museums, memorials, and political and cultural institutions. Class levels:  junior, senior, and graduate. Language of instruction: English, German. Terms: Summer. Language prerequisites: none.

Scandinavia: UCLA offers several overseas programs in coordination with universities in Scandinavia. Students are encouraged to spend up to one year in one or more of the Scandinavian countries on an American education abroad program or in a Scandinavian university. The Education Abroad Program of UCLA has a long history of collaboration with Nordic universities and offers UCLA students placement in one of a number of the finest Scandinavian universities in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Interested students would be able to choose between Copenhagen, Lund, Oslo, and Aarhus. While there is the opportunity for immersive language study while living and studying in Scandinavia, none of these programs has any language prerequisite.  All instruction in these universities is in English.  UCEAP students enroll in courses abroad while earning UC units and maintaining UCLA student status. Many programs offer internship, research, and volunteer opportunities.

Technical University Berlin: Regular university courses, taught in German and English, in a wide range of fields at one of Germany’s largest and oldest universities of technology. Class levels: Jr, Sr, Gr. Language of instruction: German and English. Terms: Fall, Spring, Year. Language prerequisites: German minimum 1 year (3 quarters / 2 semesters) with a minimum language GPA of 2.85.

  • See application checklist on MyEAP.
  • Submit application online via MyEAP.
  • Turn in paper copies of application and checklist items to UCLA International Education Office (IEO), 1332 Murphy Hall.
