Swedish
Swedish is a descendant of Old Norse, the Scandinavian language that was spoken during the Viking Era, a North Germanic language spoken natively by approximately 10 million people in Sweden and Finland. In Elementary Swedish (1, 2, and 3), students learn the basics of the language and develop conversational and written abilities as well as listening and reading comprehension. Courses aim to broaden the knowledge of Swedish culture and to learn about how Swedish culture is interconnected with the rest of Scandinavia and Europe, and of significance in the global arena.
