What is a short story and what is its history, especially regarding the tale and the novel? After defining theoretically this very specific literary genre, we will study some of the masterpieces of the 19th century, generally considered the golden age of the short story, and of 20th-21st century French literature, from the Romantic era to the realistic movement, from the fantastic to the thriller.
