Arpi Melikyan is a Ph.D. candidate in the French section of the Department of European Languages & Transcultural Studies at University of California, Los Angeles. Her doctoral research examines representations of displacement and migration in fictional works and autobiographical essays written from the 1920s to the present by authors of Armenian and Iranian descent. Her dissertation explores the various ways the authors situate themselves within the diasporic context and how their respective cultural, historical, linguistic, and social backgrounds engage with a range of themes, including exile, memory, and trauma. In 2015, she received a B.A. in French with a Spanish minor from University of California, Los Angeles.
